Samantha is a New York-based contemporary abstract landscape artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has had her work exhibited at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Gallarus Arts Fine Art Gallery, the Katonah Museum of Art in New York, and at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut. Samantha paints abstract landscape paintings of the energy in nature as a way to celebrate the life and forces that exist on our planet. Her ultimate mission is for her work to radiate light and a divine energy in people’s homes by capturing the beauty that exists in nature throughout the planet. She hopes her paintings will help people appreciate the small, beautiful details in life, whether it’s a wave crashing in the ocean, or taking a moment to notice the smell of flowers blooming on a spring day. Her work is inspired by places she has experienced throughout her life, as she has traveled around the world. Taking inspiration from big names such as Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell, Sargent, and Edgar Degas, Samantha’s work uses jewel-tones in contrast with subtle natural colors to generate a feeling of serenity, allowing people appreciate the beauty our planet has created, and through that inspire people to make a beautiful change in this world.
My oil paintings capture the dialogue that exists between the power and vitality, and action and beauty created by the forces of nature and people. I am influenced by the energy and motion created from powerful waters and my experiences with nature because of the energetic imprint it has made in my life. Through these influences, I create a combination of literal and abstracted spaces that are an accumulation of mark making influenced by their exuberance and movements, and invent lyrical patterns. There is an exuberance and reverence in life that we all experience through our encounters with nature and through our relationships. Through my paintings, I work to translate these radiant and spirited reminiscences to enliven the viewer, so he or she can experience the radiance and vitality that I see in the world.
I create an effervescence through my expressive marks, the interaction and overlapping of jewel-tone colors, and by building up layers of oil paint with brushes, palette knives, and oil sticks. I often layer my paintings with fluid, transparent glazes to form an energetic and light infused surface. I contrast this application of paint with rich and luscious marks, and misty textures to form a sense of depth and dimension. Through my process, I form a luminous, visual dance through the interaction of textures, colors and my abstract painterly marks, using an assortment of marks and colors to create vibrant visuals that evoke a feeling of life and excitement.
