Manh was born and raised in Nghe An province, Vietnam. With his love for art, he studied at Hue College of Arts. He mainly uses oil, lacquer and acrylic as media to create his works of art. He paints according to his feelings without following any particular strategy. Manh picks his ideas into a variety of themes and combines many different genres to express the beauty of the subject or content he wants to depict. Each work is a separate individual, the way of questioning the work affects the technique. However, with the Impressionist School and the abstract theme, he can show many different levels of emotions, ideas, themes and ideas. In each of his works, he wants to offer his viewers a perspective, emotional vibrations, the natural beauty of the subject or feel the content through the title of the work in the most direct way. The journey of art, for him, is to purposefully explore different matters spontaneously and cosmicize the artist's worldview through works of art. Abstract remains his favorite genre because according to him, the abstract universe is unlimited. Manh has participated in Hue Festival Street Art projects in the period from 2006 to 2012. He also participated in the conservation and restoration of interior design and technical training at Ta Vu project in Hue Palace, Vietnam from Nov 2012 to Jul 2013. Along with his personal works, he also has accepted commissions from hotels, restaurants and bars, such as Vanda and New Oriental hotels in Da Nang. In 2014 he was one of the Sun's group painters who worked on stone modelling. Manh graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Hue College of Arts. He is currently curating his own gallery in Nghe An province.

Manh Ngo's interview (03/2021)
What is your personal journey from your childhood until now?
I was born into a family with two brothers in Thai Hoa Town in the Northwest region of Nghe An province. My brother was also gifted with painting talent since childhood. I also loved to draw only until about 16 years old (in 2002) I went to learn drawing from a teacher to prepare for university entrance exam. At that time, I took my colour pigment out to the field to draw, copy the natural landscape to study nature and train my skills as well as instill emotions in my paintings. At that time, I only knew that I liked to draw but did not have much orientation. I don't like going through the process, so while studying I selectively absorbed information and explored it myself. Because I lived in the midlands and mountainous areas, the materials for painting were very difficult to find, I had to ask my teacher to order pigments and paper from Hanoi, cookd my own glue to mix colors. During high school, I learned a little about famous Vietnamese and international artists (due to difficult economic conditions and lack of information). When it was time to take the university exams, I was evenly good at all subjects but felt like painting more than anything else. With the love for fine arts, I studied at Hue University of Art, Faculty of Art from 2007 to 2012, majoring in: Oil Painting, Silk and Vietnamese Traditional Lacquer. Before I entered the school, I failed the exam twice, but since it was what I liked, I naturally determined to study hard to pass the exam.
After graduation, in order for my parents to be less worried about me having an unstable job, I tried working at a graphic company, working with photoshop. But after a month, I quit to go to Hue to participate in the project of Restoration of Hue Imperial City, restoring murals and patterns within 8 months at Hue Historic site. In 2014, I worked as a visual artist and painted color on rocks in Ba Na Hills - Da Nang. The job helped me to train my techniques and stabilize my income. In my free time, I still thought about ideas and techniques for my works.
After that, I worked with my brother to make paintings for the hotel and lived near him in Da Nang, from 2014 to 2017. During that time I was also doing reliefs. At the same time, I participate in researching on modern lacquer materials, tried composing on that new materials once, and prepared to deploy on that material in the near future. In 2018, I returned to Nghe An to build my own workshop, but in 2019 I had to build a house, so I had to borrow my friend’s workshop space to paint. In June 2020, when the studio was completed, I could then begin to focus on perfecting my works for the upcoming group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in the central region.
I can make canvas and silk canvas by myself, make the base of lacquer painting for myself. With the encouragement of my family, brother and friends, I have synthesized the knowledge of my own research and practiced my skills and thoughts to become better and better in the pursue of art. Currently, I am continuing to develop my art gallery, along with improving the quality of art products more and better from content, images to material quality.
For me, each work is a special individual, the way of questioning the work affects the technique of execution. I paint in a variety of schools but my most favorite is Expressionism and Impressionism, because these two schools, I can express many different levels of emotions, ideas, themes.
In each of my works, I want to offer everyone a perspective, emotional vibration, the beauty of the subject which can felt through the title of the work in the most direct way. As an artist, one must bring their individuality and the beauty of souls into their works and artistic journey, because the purpose of art is to naturally explore matter with a purpose and to cosmicize artist’s world through works of art.
Why did you choose to become an artist and what does it take to become one?
I work as an artist because art is life and I love art. For me, the first thing to be an artist is to have a love for art. Making art brings me joy, happiness, and bliss.
In addition to having an artistic soul, knowledge of culture, history, politics, socio-economy... is very important, and of course the indispensable training of skills, material research, ways of questioning, choosing the styles to produce an aesthetic and sustainable work of art.
What are the main challenges Vietnamese artists are facing?
The problems that Vietnamese artists are facing are how to approach collectors, the professionalism of products, the lack of professional teams to promote in unity, ... and many artists do not want to change themselves for the better.
In the context of the current covid epidemic affecting the whole world, especially the economy, Vietnamese artists are no exception and it becomes very difficult to sell "reasonably-priced" paintings.
Challenges also stem from the inside of the artist. There are some close-minded people, the previous generation who does not want to become the past must accept the new and always take it seriously, have to ask themselves questions. If not, it will affect composing and technical mentality. Creativity must always be innovative.
For new artists without low economic status, it is difficult to develop a technique and express that technique. The process will take long, and even longer without sharing and instructions from other fellow artists
There are very few art exhibitions in Vietnam and art is under regulation. What is your strategy to exhibit your work, enhance your awareness and sell your artworks?
My current strategy is to improve the quality of my work, from the content of the work to the supplementary components such as wood, materials to execute the work. Along with that is to increase the exchange of works with other artists by participating in live-painting tours, small creation camp depending on the conditions of each group, share experiences, and collaborate with other artists and professional teams.
You recently decided to join Silapix.com and the Silapix Art Rotation Program developed by Art Consulting Asia. What is the added-value of these new concepts and what benefits do you think Vietnamese artists will withdraw from them?
Silapix Art Rotation is a professional platform designed to enhance the Vietnamese artist community, giving artists the opportunity to exchange, meet, and express their ideas, concepts or compositions with collectors.
Who are the top 5 artists (domestic or international, deceased or alive) having the most influence on your work?
Since I learned about world painters in high school, I have many feelings and first remembrance of Pablo Picasso with the painting: The girls of Avignon - the first and only painting that I copied with emotions and in a very short time within two hours. Then there is artist Isaac Ilyich Levitan with a cluster of beautiful landscapes but with a bit of melancholy. Next are the impressionist artists including: Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Salvador Dali of surrealism, Jackson Pollock ...
