Studied Visual Arts at SUNY New Paltz, New York
Bachelor & Master Degree in Art Education
Amy is a New York born artist who has been residing in Bangkok, Thailand since 2013. She studied visual arts and received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in art education at SUNY New Paltz, New York. Since moving to the vibrant capital of Thailand, her style has evolved into colorful dot paintings inspired by her travels. Amy has exhibited her works internationally in New York, Thailand, Singapore, and Germany. She was chosen to join an artist group that holds annual exhibitions at the Queens Gallery of Thailand and Montien Hotel that is presented to Princess Soamsawali, a member of the Thai Royal Family. Additionally, 15 of her large scale paintings were featured in the Art Apart Fair at ParkRoyal on Pickering Hotel, Singapore for the 2015 & 2016 editions. She also had a gallery solo show at Blaue Stunde Galerie in Berlin in May 2016 showcasing 30 of her mini (20x20cm) mindful mandala paintings. She has curated a group exhibition of 10 artists titled “Mindful Moments” at the Four Points by Sheraton in Bangkok in 2016. Amy and her artwork landed on the cover story of Wanderlust: Expat Life & Style Magazine - Thailand (August/September 2015.) She felt extremely honored to be selected as the cover girl model with the first magazine article written about her artworks.
I create detailed dot paintings that take on various subjects such as abstractions, mandalas, animals, trees, flowers, and portraits. My paintings are inspired by the colors and patterns from nature and city surroundings I encounter during my travels. The color combinations of the lupins of New Zealand, the sunflower fields and turquoise waters of Thailand, the neon pink and sky blue taxis of Bangkok, the bamboo forests of Kyoto, the colorful houses of Burano, and the multicolored sea glass along the beaches of Barcelona have provided me with wonderful inspiration. My paintings also draw influence from sacred geometry, the Fibonacci sequence, and the cosmic world. Acrylic paint is my preferred medium because it contains a thick texture and dries quickly. I can easily overlap the colors as my ideas change and evolve. The dot is purely decorative; however it is the process of creating dots that I have become fascinated with. Creating art is my way of expressing my life journey. I have had a long history of battling OCD and painting dots has been a positive outlet for me. The painting process is very repetitive, requiring a lot of focus. It is a mindful practice, where I can be fully present and aware in the moment. I am able to embody the repetitive experience without getting lost in my thoughts. I am able to turn my suffering into something beautiful and inspirational. My goal for the paintings is to provide viewers with a therapeutic experience, encouraging you to pause, take a breath, and enchant your mind and body.
